These days SEO is a mine-field of black hat techniques and web development agencies promising the world, only to find your site has been sandboxed by Google (wiped off Google all together). Well at Modern Touch we take time in delivering successful, measurable SEO strategies but there are some things you can do yourself. We have created some free SEO tips that could transform your website performance:

1) Include your most import keywords in your title tags. For example if your site sells HD TV’s you would have a title tag along the lines of “Discount HD TV’s in the UK”. Your title tag also tells people what your site is about so it can’t be just a keyword string.

2) Textual content is important on a website. It helps users and spider determine what the site is about and the quality of your content and knowledge. Always write original informative content for your site and ensure each page has plenty on it, remember spiders can’t see images!

3) Fill in Meta and Alt data. Each page should have unique description and keyword tags and each image should have a short relevant alt tag so spiders have the best idea on what your page contains information about.

4) If you use a CMS or shopping cart system with dynamic properties, ensure that it is SEO compliant and that spiders can access all the relevant URLs and content. Where possible rewrite your URLs to contain relevant keywords.

5) Control internal link and be sure to include relevant anchor text on all internal links. Make sure you place footer links to the 3 most important pages and don’t place 100’s of internal links in a navigation or list when you don’t need them.

6) If you use any script, image or Flash to control navigation be sure to create text variants so spiders can defiantly get through

7) Create an html and xml sitemap and ensure they are properly uploaded and registered with search engines.

8) Build links to your site with the relevant anchor text from places such as blogs, forums and directories, be sure to vary your link text though and link to more than just your index page.

9) Reciprocal linking is a valuable tool but if you overuse it you will create problems for yourself, be careful who you exchange links with and how often.

10) If you do look for an SEO team to handle your sites search engine optimisation be aware that no-one can guarantee results, and that results in competitive fields sometimes can take time.
